ABSTRACT |
The economic precursor of mullite (3Al2O3.2SiO2) was prepared by sol-gel method from condensed ethyl silicate (CES) or partially hydrolyzed TEOS and aluminum isopropoxide as sources of SiO2 and Al2O3 respecti-vely. The CES was synthesized from SiCl4 and C2H5OH including 7.0wt% of H2O In this study mullite from the CES was formed at 100$0^{circ}C$ even without long hydrolysis step while mullite from partially hydrolyzed TEOS was obtained at 120$0^{circ}C$. The mullite produced from the CES was spherical shape of fine powder which was in range of 0.05~0.1${mu}{textrm}{m}$ in size. The specific surface area of dried gel was about 290m2/g and rapidly reduced above 80$0^{circ}C$. In addition the dried gel and the mullite powder were investigated by XRD. FT-IR EDS and ICP |
