Effect of SiO2 and P2O5 on the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 System Glass-Ceramics Produced by Sintering
ABSTRACT
Silica and phosphorous pentoxide were added to the stoichiometric cordierite composition to produce cordierite glass-ceramics by sintering at lower temperature. The sinterability and various properties were investigated. Addition of P2O5 promotes the tendency of surface crystallization, and increases the crystallization temperature. Therefore, P2O5 addition contributes to densification. Also this additive increases the temperature of $mu$-cordierite to $alpha$-cordierite transformation. The specimen of optimum composition fired at 100$0^{circ}C$ shows relative density of 97%, dielectric constant of 5.3, specific resistivity of 1.27$times$1012{{{{ OMEGA }}cm, and thermal expansion coefficient of 38$times$10-7/$^{circ}C$
